Creative Writing Ideas

Write short informative paragraphs about each subject. Make them very detailed. Don't leave anything out.


Describe your first grade teacher.

Describe the first home you can remember

Describe the first pet you had

Describe your earliest memory of your mom and dad

Describe a memorable family vacation

Describe a family death or funeral

What were your fears at age 6 or 10 or 20 or...

How would you describe your favorite drink

What was the funniest thing that ever happened to you

What was the scariest thing that ever happened to you


Or your most embarrassing incident

What was the funniest thing you ever saw

What was your first car

Describe your first kiss

Who was your best kindergarten friend


Who made a real difference in your life

How did you present yourself at your first job interview

What was your first job

How did you meet your spouse

What are you really good at

What major vacation would you like to go on

How are you unique-what makes you different from your neighbor

If you could change your life what would you change

If you could go back to any age what age would you want to be, why

Why do you like dogs, cats, snakes etc

What musical instrument do you wish you could play

What new occupation would you go into if you had the chance

 

Creative Writing Activities

One way to come with more creative writing ideas is to pretend you are meeting someone for the first time and you want to tell them all about you. What do you want them to know? Write it all down.

Go into an art gallery and invent a story about a painting. I saw a painting of three teddy bears and the artist and added some red paint to the foot of baby bear. To my other artist friends I stood there and made up a story about Goldilocks trying to kill baby bear and there was the proof/blood on his foot. The story went on and on but you get the idea.

 

Creative Writing Excercises

Go outside and pick up something from the ground, such as discarded drink cups, broken leaves, toys, just about anything can jumpstart your imagination. Make up a story about that item.

Look at old family photographs and make up a story about an individual.

Always always ask yourself, what if, what if my character did this or said that. Make it very outrageous.

It’s not difficult to find information on writing novels. It’s not hard to find novel writing classes and novel writing books. But it IS difficult to find a full, step-by-step novel writing system that will lead you all the way from idea to completed book. It IS especially difficult to find an affordable such system.
