Creative Writing
Tip 1
Freewriting is simply writing.
Writing without any preconceived notion of what to write. No subject.
No theme.
With paper and pen write for only 10-15 minutes. You will need a timer.
Write until the timer goes off.
Don't think, plot or plan what you will write. Just write.
Write everything that comes into your head.
Doodle with words, or just write your name over and over again.
As you think it, write it.
When the timer goes off, stop.
Review what you have writen.
Does anything interest you. Could anything be used as a story line?
Writing Prompt 2
Get out your big dictionary
and open it to any page.
Close your eyes and point to a word and write it down.
Do this again until you have three words written down.
Set a timer for 15 minutes.
Freewrite for 15 minutes, using each of the three words, try to get
them into the first paragraph
Try using them together.
Stop writing when your timer goes off.
Study the words and see
if anything strikes you.
You might even use the words, "what if" as you study what
you've written.
Creative Writing Tip 3
Look through magazines
or friends picture albums or newspaper photos
Spend ten to fifteen minutes free writing on the photograph.
Any idea of your free writing exercise can be used as a starting point
for a story.

On a slip of paper write
down a secret.
Allow other writers to draw a slip, sight unseen.
The secret you've drawn may then be used as a starting point.
Make it the first line in your story and see where it leads.
